About Us

We Believe
Dance Belongs
to Everyone

Dancers and community members during an Open Sharing at the Catalyst Creative Collective Space

"Dance is for Everybody
and Every Body."

Dancesequences Inc. is dedicated to creating open-access dance experiences that welcome people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds. We believe movement is a fundamental human right — not a performance skill reserved for the few.

Our Focus

Defining and Responding to (in)Visibility

At the heart of our work is a question: when are people present in a room, yet invisible to it? Dancesequences explores the lived experiences of those whose visibility is denied — and creates spaces where every body is seen, heard, and valued.

Through movement and collective improvisation, we address the (in)visibility of:

Disability Homelessness Ethnicity Aging Mental Health Economic Disparity
Community members taking part in an Open Sharing at Hacienda at the Canyon
Four dancers improvising together in a studio, arms reaching and extending in different directions

Our approach is rooted in decades of practice.

Rooted in Barbara Mettler's Creative Dance

Dancesequences draws on the pioneering work of Barbara Mettler, whose free movement approach holds that dance is an intrinsic human activity — not a performance skill reserved for the trained few.

Mettler-based Creative Dance forms the foundation of all our programs, emphasizing group improvisation, embodied awareness, and the radical premise that everyone is already a dancer. This framework allows us to meet participants exactly where they are.
